That may very well be true if you were visiting an artists collective or something similar! I can guarantee that not all of the textiles (or at least the patterns) are authentic to whatever village you are in, however. After scanning the photograph earlier I recognized three generic Andean/Peruvian, patterns sold all over the country. Most of Peruvian tourism relies heavily on the creation of an ‘authentic experience’.
Perhaps if you have a photograph of the particular pattern that is related to the village I could ask a colleague to look at it? Maybe get you some answers? I’m just really curious whereabouts you were.
FYI: I’m an anthropologist/archaeologist (just in case I’m coming off as a know-it-all)
