Again, culture. It doesn’t look gay when men hold hands either, unless you’re trained to think so. Girls are allowed to touch. Girls are also viewed as more sexually and aesthetically pleasing than men as well as more open and loose with their feelings, so two girls holding hands or touching doesn’t have to be gay. It could just be two pretty things touching and not two women being sexual, or two overly emotional people being overly emotional together.
Really, it doesn’t have to be either. It could just be a sign of friendship or fondness or anything. Men have to stand up as a tower of strength against emotions and against what is right and wrong, which included being gay for a long long time, so we can’t show the “weakness” of touching for fondness or friendship. My best friend and I hug all the time, mostly when we say goodbye. We’ve more than once leaned heads together during a side hug for a few seconds. We are both straight, but also love the fuck out of each other and it feels good to express that and have that expressed back. I don’t think we would ever do it in public because people would assume, but if he’s leaving my house, it’s nice to express how much we mean to each other.
